In this book of the Bible, Moses’ emphasizes God’s faithfulness and devotion and
the reminder that we must not give our allegiance to any God but the Lord. God has
chosen to permanently affix the divine identity to ours, as Creator to creature. God bore
us in love for the purpose of knowing the grand union that love alone creates. The
entire covenant that Moses reveals is founded in the relationship of the divine Lover and
His Beloved.
Do we regularly seek the face of the Lord? God waits patiently, wanting to give
us His strength and wisdom, while in our humanness we usually try to go it alone, until
we are in desperate need. What false gods do we have before us that threaten to
become obstacles to our relationship with the Lord?
The Bible encourages us to seek God. Here are some quotes. 1 Chronicles
16:11, “Rely on the mighty Lord; constantly seek His face.” Amos 5:4, “For thus says
the Lord to the house of Isreal (us): Seek Me, that you may live.” Psalm 70:5, “But may
all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You. Those who long for Your help always say,
‘God be glorified.” Jeremiah 29:13, “When you look for Me, you will find me. Yes, when
you seek Me with all your heart, I will let you find Me…” Perhaps during this fifty-day
celebration of Easter, we can take time to reflect on these Scriptures and what they are
calling us to.
We are constantly being invited by God to draw closer. Each of our sorrows,
fears, mistakes are invitations from God. Quite frankly, who of us doesn’t get ‘stuck’
particularly as a caretaker when fear takes too prominent a place. I have a bookmark
that says, “Our physical strength is measured by what we can carry; our spiritual
strength by what we can bear.” (Unknown author). We do not have to bear anything
alone and are guided by the words of Psalm 55:23, “Cast your care upon the Lord, who
will give you support. He will never allow the righteous to stumble.”
During my recuperation from knee replacement surgery, the first few weeks, I
could barely pray. Having other health conditions, I was nearly despairing that I had
made a mistake undertaking this large challenge. Faith that God is merciful, and I would
be restored in God’s time, kept me going as I sought the Lord, as I could and grateful for
the prayers of my friends and family. It is all about trust in the Lord for the next chapter,
because we know the author. May you seek God’s love to hold and carry each
moment.
